Managing w/o Managers

It is always good to learn from the experience of others on how they run a business. Each executive that writes a book about his career, details his own managing style and technic that matched his own persona, the company’s environment, and the era. While most ideas mentioned in the article were innovative at the time (1989), some are implemented today by many corporations: flexible hours, personalized work environment, no dress code etc. Other ideas, such as allowing employees to approve an M&A transaction, provide all employees with access to monthly financial information, will simply not cut-it in today’s highly regulated environment (such as Regulation FD). Also, I believe it gives the employees an overweight in the balance between stakeholders.
Overall the article did offer some good points and non-traditional ideas that should be considered by managers today, but in no way can it turn into a recipe for success, evidenced by the author’s own words: “How did we do it and survive? Hard work of course. And good luck – fundamental to all business success”.
