First of all I agree with Christines' approach - if you decided that something is important, you have to go all the way and with all insistence needed to achieve it, like she did with the meeting. But I'm not sure that the goal itself was worthy enough. Although it was very inspirational and motivating for her, and she was exposed to the new and extraordinary vision of life. I think that every person is special and unique, and ones' patterns won't necessarily work for another. For Steve Jobs this abstract thinking and believing in things that not even remotely exist yet - was a winning approach, but for someone else going forward step by step and achieving close and realistic goal might be better. So everyone has to find his own way and motivators for success.
