I think that this management approach is very interesting, and might even work for companies with certain definitions - companies with low employees turnover for one. In companies where employees come and go frequently I don't think they will bond enough to care for company success in general, and won't be around long enough to get affected by this "natural" educational process. Nowadays more and more people tend to change their workplace frequently, so society and this approach heading to different directions. Moreover, I don' t think that all people are as responsible as described. They are make important decisions every day, but those are not always right!! Look how many families are in debts, their children are hungry and don't have enough even for basic education! I won't even remind alcoholics and criminals.. More than that, not everyone at work want to make a change and be involved, but go to work, get the salary, live their life with the family and retire early. Those who care, find their way to do it even in conservatively managed organization. And one more comment - people need rules and boundaries to get along. That's why every country get law system and it's enforcement for instance, and that's how most of us have been raised and educated by our parents. So every company needs to set some basic rules to avoid employees confuse, and a real challenge is to set necessary ones and not too many of them.
