Science 2.0 -
A good idea for students but not for scientists

It is certainly true that collaboration among scientists may contribute to various fields such as astronomy, medicine and chemistry but we should think how realistic it is. In sceintific research fields there are many obstacles to deal with in order to implement the concept that was presented in the article. The globalization of science is accelerating the pace of discovery but we can't forget that this world is a very competitive one and many scientists think more about their personal interests rather than the global welfare.

The example with the neurologist that won 50,000$ for presenting his solution for ALS disease is a good example of integration between the scientist's personal benefit and the global benefit.
In my opinion this idea is much practical in the academic world, especially for students. In the science fields things are much complicated because collaboration might replace things like reputation, prestige and independence.

Agree with Meytal,
In addition - one of the powers behind the innovation and research publications is competition - and we can't underestimate this power! Let's suppose there would be a "full" collaboration environment - I think it will ruin intrinsic motivation..
